New Homes

The ground work for Phase one of the village style development at Finchale Abbey was completed in February 2005. The information shown here charts the introduction of the first lodges from arrival to siting, connection and the first residents taking up occupancy.

The homes are delivered from the factory in two sections on the back of two transporters. As access to Finchale is via a low level bridge the transporters are met by a tractor which tows them to Finchale.

Coming in two sections, with  the open wall covered in plastic to protect it on the journey, homes are already fully furnished with curtains and all of the fittings. The carpets are laid after the homes are joined on the plots but the rest of the furniture is in and if you looked in the window you can see that even the bed was already made!

Once on the park a JCB was used to manoeuvre the two halves of the home into position on the concrete base.

The two halves of the homes were placed close together on the pad and a specialist team arrived to join them together. March 2005.

Is anyone else thinking Austria?

Once joined the decking was added in stages with the sub frame being built first.

The decking also made from Extrudawood was added creating an extra living space.

Mr and Mrs Storey moved in to their home at the beginning of March 2005 and were delighted to become our first new residents.

Landscaping around the rest of the park was completed over the following weeks with ground being prepared and grass seed sewn.

As we moved into spring and summer the trees around the park sprung into life and the grass started to grow.

As you can see by the photograph Mr and Mrs Watson decided to block pave down the side of their home instead of having decking completely around although they have a small area of decking at the other side of the lodge to allow them access through the side door.
The decking is as adaptable as the homes themselves and can be designed to owners individual specifications.

We are asked lots of questions about how the lodges are sited and supported, hopefully these photographs will answer some of those questions. The wheels are not removed from the lodges when they are sited although they are not load bearing and the weight of the lodge is held by metal supports.

Side panels are added to the lodges to hide the under birth from view, these side panels are made from Extrudawood to blend with the rest of the lodge.
