Christmas is on the way!
We’d like to take this opportunity to
wish all of our residents current and future a Merry Christmas and a prosperous
New Year.
Christmas Quiz.
A little bit of Christmas fun, pit your wits
against out Christmas quiz and see if you can win our bottle of Christmas
bubbly.
Hand your completed quizzes in to the shop on
or before the 21st December and
try not to Google for too many of the answers! ☺
New Year Party
As you’ll all be aware money raised from the
coffee morning raffle has been put towards paying for a New Years Eve party.
The party will begin around 8pm in the Playroom and there will be a £1 entrance
fee, which will also get you a raffle ticket. Money raised will be used to pay
for gas heating and setting up the room. Bring a plate of food for the communal
buffet and whatever you’d like to drink.
Gardens/ Vegetable
patches
We have had interest from residents with regard to
vegetable patches or gardens on the park. As you’re all aware
you’re most welcome to create a garden area around your lodge and
we’ve looked around for the best site for vegetable patches. We’ve
dedicated an area of land near the gas tanks at the top of St Cuthbert’s
View.
If you’d like a plot of land to ‘grow your
own’ let us know at the shop and we’ll add your name to the list.
We feel we must point out at this point that sheds or other home made shelters
can’t be added to the plots as we don’t have any planning
permission for buildings of any sort in this area.
Welcome to New Residents
Since our last edition of Finchale Abbey News we have several new residents
who have joined us. We’d like to formally welcome Mr. and Mrs. Littlefair, Mr. Richardson, Mr. Hurst and Mr. and Mrs.
Thompson. We wish you all the best in your new home and hope you have many
happy years with us here at Finchale.
Again more plots have been sold, a full list of
plots sold on Phase Two can be seen on page 4. As soon as our problems relating
to Stage Three are sorted out we’ll be able to resume selling plots in
this area.
Speeding on the park.
Can you all please
remember that there is a 10 mph speed limit throughout the park and village,
which is in-force as soon as you come through the main barrier.
Particularly driving through the touring area where children may be playing.
We’ve been asked by some of
our residents for a list of names for Christmas cards and just to say hello!

anyone's names incorrectly, if we have please let us know and we’ll get
it right next time!
Stage three news!
We should soon be
on the move!
The dig has been completed
and we’re currently waiting for the report on the site to be completed.
Once it is completed we hope to be given the green light to carry on with
adding homes to Stage Three. Mr and Mrs Fisher have been alone down there for
some time now and I’m sure they’re looking forward to getting some
neighbours. Mr Hirst who has moved onto plot 66 in
the short term will be moving down to join Mr Fisher on St Aiden’s
Walk soon. Mr and Mrs Humphries will also be moving down to join Mr and Mrs
Fisher as soon as they can.
Postal Problems
We are aware that we have been having a few ‘teething’ problems
with the new postage system. We can only apologise for these problems and hope they are rectified soon.
We have
been advised by Mr. Armitage, who has contacted the
post office directly that the post code hasn’t been activated properly,
we have also had a number of different post men and women over the last months
and this could be some of the problem.
Mr. Armitage also provided us with contact numbers should
anyone wish to complain about the postage problem, as you’d expect the
more people that complain the more likely the problem will be sorted out!
Lost and Found
Has
anyone seen a bike cover? Mr Hugill’s
bike cover was blown off on Saturday has anyone seen it or picked it up? If you
find it can you please return it to Mr. Hugill
Thanks
Bridge opening soon. The bridge near the farmhouse is now
nearing the end of the refurbishment. Scaffolding should be down on Thursday
and we expect it to be open and ready for use by the weekend of the 15th
December. We look forward to being able to use the bridge again and residents
will now have access to the riverside walks and not forgetting you’ll not
be able walk over to the Cocken Lodge driving range
and Lucy’s Bar.
Again with regard to walks around
the local area we’d like to say a big well done and thank you to Mr and
Mrs Clyburn for the booklet about walks around the park area they have
produced. Lovely walks with some great names we’re sure you’ll all
agree!
We hope you’ll all find it
very useful although please be vigilant to ensure that only our residents use
these walks.
From the onset of our book club we
have now progressed to quite a large gathering of residents. The library is now
quite extensive and growing all the time.
The raffles at the coffee mornings
initially raised money for the St Cuthbert’s Hospice but all further
funds raised will be put towards the New Years party.
After the new year
the coffee morning will be moving from the café to the play room on the park.
(The large green shed near to the touring park.) We’ll have tea and
coffee facilities and more importantly the space we’ll need to
accommodate our growing group.
If any more residents would like to
join us you’d be most welcome we meet every Thursday morning so come
along be it every week or as a one off.
Many Thanks
Mary and Barbara
Congratulations to Mary and Barbara on the success of the Book club coffee
morning which I feel has brought much pleasure to all who attend. I am sure
this is only the first of several ‘social get to-gethers’
to come and wish everyone the best of luck with any future ventures.
I would like to
thank those of you ho contributed prizes and bought tickets for the first two
raffles, which realised the magnificent sum of
£50, which I was asked to pass onto Saint Cuthbert’s Hospice. I thank you
all sincerely for your kindness and support. The proceeds were handed over on
Friday 9th November. The receipt is at the shop should anyone wish to see it.
