BBQ
The summer BBQ raised £650 for Kidney
Research. The organizers were overwhelmed with the generosity of our residents
We would also like to thank Bill for arranging for his friends to do the
“Rat pack” and Janet for the fantastic food. It was great to see
everyone enjoy themselves and we are pleased to see it seems to have brought
our community together helping to break the ice and encourage new friendships
Block paving
Mr & Mrs Duncan and Mr & Mrs
Hodgkiss your block paving is very smart when we take visitors through the park
they all remark on how well it looks.
The
new gates seem to be doing the job of
at least keeping the cars out and the majority of walkers. It is difficult when
ignorant people just flaunt the rules and think they have a right to walk
around the residential area, Please be
vigilant, stop them, if necessary

Mary
For
transforming “The round
about” from a heap of soil in to the beautiful garden we all look
at today it is wonderful to see the colours. A big thank you.
Eco
Products
One
of our residents asked if we could suggest using eco products for our washing
machines and toilets. This would help cut down on the enzymes in the treatment
plant and ensure it works to maximise effectiveness. For example non bio washing tablets, no full
bleach products. What are your thoughts?
Welcome to New Residents
Our village has grown again in the four
months since our last newsletter.
We’d like to take the opportunity to welcome Mr. & Mrs.
Fisher, Mr. & Mrs. Miller, Mr. & Mrs. Duncan, and Mrs. Kennedy who have joined us.
We’d also like to welcome Mr. & Mrs. Humphries who haven’t
quite managed to join us yet because of the slight problems we’ve been
having with stage three but they will be with us soon!
Although the housing market is as
unpredictable as ever several of our prospective residents have managed to sell
their homes and have lodges in production. The new show home from TingDene is
due on to the park in a couple of weeks and we look forward to welcoming more
residents over the coming months. From September we will welcome Mr. & Mrs.
Littlefair, Mr. & Mrs. Thompson, Mrs. Elliot, Mr. & Mrs. freeman, Mr. & Mrs. Newton, Mr.
Hirst, Mr. & Mrs. Henry, Mr. & Mrs. Richardson and a new
show home…NJS are going to be busy!!
David
Bellamy Visits us again!
David
was in absolute awe of Finchale and how established the stage one has become in
such a short length of time, he loved Mr. & Mrs. Hodgkiss’ wild
flower bank and he hoped we would
encourage more wild planting around the others plots. David came back with his
wife and grandson the following Saturday and sat on the show home decking
looking at the fantastic view of the priory.
Our next venture will be to create a wildflower meadow. The
large field that Mr & Mrs Miller look out over, between stage two and the
touring field. The field will be left uncut for the rest of the summer.
Don’t think we’ve just neglected to cut it this is all part of the
plan! We’ll be planting some bushes and trees here at the end of the year
and reintroducing native wild flowers. It is going to take a couple of seasons
for the area to be fully developed but once we’re up and running
we’ll have a path cut through to allow residents to walk and enjoy the
flowers, insects and other wildlife that this new development is bound to
encourage.
This
will be a nice area for dog walking within the park, although we’ll
obviously expect all residents to keep up the current good practise and clean
up after their dogs.
Have
you all noticed the wildflowers that have spread around the reed bed? This
looks fantastic the colours are beautiful.
A
big thank you to all residents that are working to make the park not only look
beautiful but to be more wildlife and
environmentally friendly.
Stage three troubles!
After
the fire officer’s report and the enforced demolition of the bungalows we
started, on an unexpected Stage Three of our development. This third stage has
been a bit of a nightmare for the company as health and safety rules are
paramount and rules us with a rod of iron. This phase of development has also
got us in hot water with the authorities especially with English Heritage.
The
advice we originally took with regard to Stage Three of the development now
seems to have been flawed and even the council were unaware that this final
stage encroached upon a scheduled area and permission should have been sort
from English Heritage before works started. We now have to have an
archaeological dig to see the damage under the ground and all work and
introduction of new lodges into this area has been suspended.
We will
keep you posted on any developments in regard to this as and when they
happen.
Note from a Fellow
Resident….Mrs Sowerby
When I was widowed in 2005, I
felt I would like a total change of lifestyle, where I would find the pace and
contentment for which I was searching.
Whilst spending a few days with my
family in Northumberland I read a newspaper article featuring a park home
development in Cumbria, which prompted me to ask my son to investigate the
possibility of somewhere in the Durham area. Two days later Finchale was
identified and a visit was arranged.
On arrival at Finchale, once through the
barrier I knew immediately that this was every thing I was looking for and
more. The peace and quiet of the river, the wonderful Abbey and the beautiful
woodland and wildlife. What more could I ask?
Since coming to Finchale, I have known
great pleasure and happiness, I have formed some very special and valued
friendships and have been privileged to receive such kindness and support from
everyone, not least the entire Welsh family, who in recent weeks have been a
constant source of help and kindness and understanding which has made my path a
little easier and happier and brought me peace of mind and contentment
And now before I become too sentimental – thanks
folks for being the very special people you are. It has been a pleasure to know
everyone of you I wish you all showers of blessings and all peace and
happiness.
Always
Nora.
Nora you are an amazing lady, your attitude to
life makes us all feel very humble

We had a visit this week from Mark Wilkes who is the
Liberal Democrat Councillor for Framwellgate Moor, he was impressed to see
how much recycling you all do on the park.
Mark was amazed with how well established St
Godric’s Walk has now become and believes our residents are really lucky
to be living in such an idyllic setting.

Mark saw Eric’s recycling area where
glass and cans are collected and sorted and this has encouraged him into
looking at how we could collect and recycle plastic bottles, cardboard and
paper in the future.

Please keep up your good
work with regard to recycling by placing any recyclable items in the green
boxes beside the bin areas and we’ll endeavour to empty them as often as
needed.
Club
House
Dear Residents,
We are taking this opportunity to
inform all of our residents with regard to our position in providing amenities
for any social gatherings as has been recently suggested. The
Finchale Abbey is being promoted as a peaceful
and a relaxing place to live and to make changes at this early stage and
provide a “Club House” is not in our current plans, one of the main
points that attracts people is the absence of any facilities that resembles a
holiday park, this is not to say there will not be one in the future. It would
not be prudent to accommodate this request until the site is fully occupied and
then we will consider the majority view when it is appropriate. In providing a
“Club Room” residents will have to consider how this amenity should
be used and how the running costs will be financed and therefore you will appreciate
that any decision made now could have a potential adverse effect on what
Finchale Abbey currently stands for.
We hope this clarifies the current
situation regarding a “Club House” but the situation will be
reviewed in the future.
